A very brief biography of John Davis

John Davis is a retired compensation consultant and compensation consulting firm co-owner.(Compensation is that part of Human Resources in a company that is concerned with how much jobs are worth and how to pay employees fairly for the work they do.) He has been an author of compensation books, a teacher of statistics both in the compensation field and at the college level, and a frequent speaker at national and local conferences.

John has a BS and MSc in Chemical Engineering, and a PhD in Statistics, all from The Ohio State University. He served in the U.S. Navy as an officer. He worked as a research chemical engineer and has a patent on the purification of aromatic hydrocarbons. He taught undergraduate mathematics and statistics at Glassboro State College, and graduate statistics at The University of Texas at Dallas.

Outside of his professional career, John describes himself as a life participant, not a spectator – a singer, dancer, bicycler, swimmer, hiker, and traveler.

He sang for 35 years with the Vocal Majority, an award-winning Dallas-based barbershop and pops chorus. He was on a dance team that won a national competition in West Coast Swing. He bicycled the length of Africa 7,350 miles from Cairo to Cape Town over a period of four months. For a week he swam from island to island off the coast of Croatia in the Adriatic Sea on the East end of the Mediterranean. He has hiked down the Grand Canyon, up to Machu Picchu in Peru, and up to Gokyo Ri (17,000 ft) in the Himalayas in Nepal. He has traveled to over 65 countries.

John has three children and six grandchildren.

Currently he spends time with his grandchildren and continues his habit of reading. You can tell he is an avid reader from the bookshelves behind him in the photo above.
